Engagement Photo Shoot: Tips from the Pros

I have had the pleasure of working with Cicely, owner of Procopio Photography. I asked her the other day for some tips for couples who are doing upcoming engagement sessions. Here is what she had to say:

“My tips for brides on engagement sessions: Really plan for your engagement session. The more you put into a shoot, the more you will get out of it. Getting your hair and makeup done is a must, you are only going to have one engagement session, so make it glamorous! Take the time to think about your outfits and what style/look are you going for. Another thing a bride can do to optimize their session is to talk to their photographer about their ideas. At Procopio Photography we take the time with all of our brides to help guide them toward a customized engagement session. Hilary & Paul are a prime example of a couple who's outfits, hair/makeup, & overall ideas for the shoot really all came together fabulously! Thank you Carla for your outstanding artistry on Hilary's hair and makeup!”

Vintage touches in a modern way...

I love my job! What easier job to make beautiful women feel and look their best on their wedding day. I meet so many beautiful brides to be. They are always beautiful on the inside and out…which makes my job even easier. I had the pleasure of doing Melody’s makeup and hair and some of her wedding party’s hair on her wedding day. I absolutely loved Melody’s vintage inspired blusher veil, it fit perfectly with her romantic up do with volume in the front and curls down the back. We also decided to give her a bright pink lip instead of red to give a modern touch to her vintage look.
Please enjoy the beautiful images by Kristi Odom from Melody’s wedding day. To view more images go to Kristi Odom’s blog at: http://www.kristiodom.com/blog/?p=2533&cpage=1#comment-876.

Everyone LOVES a care package?

Care Packages and Photographers

The other day I received a “care package” from a photographer I had worked with while doing a wedding several months back. The feeling took me back to college when your mom would send you a package of goodies and treats to let you know how much mom and dad missed you. It is always nice to receive a package, even if it was something you ordered on-line…we all love packages. I take that back, it is even better when it is something you did not pay for nor one you expected to receive.

The package was from wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer Amie Otto. It included a CD with several images from the wedding we both worked on as well as a small stack of note card she had made from one of the beautiful portrait images of the bride. Needless to say I loved it! The images were beautiful. To me photography is a true art form, like many things in this industry. I always say that photos are extremely optioned. In other words, the photos from a wedding are like viewing the experience from someone else’s perspective. It is their take on your day, the people and the entire event.

When brides ask my opinion on photographers I always recommend picking a photographer that want to be around you all day. This person or persons are going to capture everything you experience as well as some of the details or tiny moments that you were too busy to admire. Amie not only has a wonderful, friendly and warm personality, but she has a timeless and romantic way in which she capture weddings, people, events. She describes her style as, “documentary and modern photography, with a classic sensibility.” I would have to agree.

Please check out Amie’s work on her site, http://amieottophotography.com/. Here are some images from the CD Amie sent me. Enjoy!

Thanks again Amie! Just wanted to let you know that you made my day!! I look forward to working with you again soon.
